PRP
PRP
PRP or Platelet-rich plasma is a simple, cost-effective and feasible treatment option for acne scars, hair loss, androgenetic alopecia and wounds.
PRP is injected over the affected area to stimulate stem cells. After injection into the damaged area the tissue gets stimulated and there is mild inflammation which triggers the healing cascade. Thereby new collagen begins to develop which on maturation shrinks and tightens and strengthens the skin.
The growth factors released activate the proliferative phase and transdifferentiation of hair and stem cells and produce new follicular units. This results in improvement in hair density and stimulation of growth. PRP is also combined with hair transplant.
To prepare PRP a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient’s arm. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge that spins at high speed and separates the platelets from the rest of the blood components. Platelet-rich plasma is injected by multiple tiny punctures into the skin after applying topical local anaesthesia
Because the patient’s blood is used there is no risk of a transmissible infection and a low risk of allergic reaction, thereby increasing the safety of procedure
